Galloway to Patriots

The Patriots signed NFL veteran Joey Galloway. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed but now the Patriots have two of the best and experienced receivers in league with Randy Moss and Joey Galloway. Galloway is 37 years old and gets 15.7 yards per reception as a career average. Both Moss and Galloway are among nine receivers in the league to have 10,000 or more career receiving yards. Galloway has spent fourteen seasons in the NFL with teams as Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New England. The Bucs let Galloway go last February after he was plagued by injures in the 2008 season.

New Feed

Now don’t take this as an excuse to stop reading My Patriots Fan Site. We are still a great place to find Patriots information and analysis. But the Patriots have put together a different way to disseminate information, namely, their new twitter site. This weekend, when the NFL Draft is underway, the Patriots will announce their picks first via Twitter. And then after the draft, this will be used as a way to spread other Patriots news over the course of the offseason and into the 2009 season. It will be a lot of fun to see them battle it out for a great pick. Incidentally, still no one knows how the Patriots will be choosing their draft pick, and some people think that even the admin people don’t know either. It will be a great weekend!

TE?

The tight end position is where the Patriots often go for the NFL draft. In recent years, they have been taking tight ends again and again. Now, the team might actually have good use for a new tight end, since the two other TE’s have contracts expiring soon and the team will actually need a tight end during the upcoming year or so. As the draft comes up this weekend, it will be one of the first positions that they are looking at. This team’s coach has worked some real magic in the draft over the last few years, and may have to do so again this time around. Can this team get it done? Either way, they have tight ends enough for this year, so no reason to panic quite yet.

road to the playoffs

The road to the playoffs will defiantly be a challenging one for the Patriots this year. They play the Dolphins, Ravens, Colts, Falcons, Panthers, and Titans. All six of these teams made it into the playoffs last year and all are serious contenders. In the 2008 season that Patriots opponents winning percentage was .590, which was the third highest in the league. In 2007 the Patriots opponents winning percentage was only .387 which was the lowest out of the NFL’s 32 teams. All this means is that this year will be a lot tougher then last year. The 2009 season opener against the Buffalo pills marks both Tom Brady’s return from an injury and Buffalos new wide receiver Terrell Owens. That day also is the 50th anniversary of the American Football League, in which both the Bills and the Patriots were amongst the original members.

Opening Day

When the Patriots take on the Buffalo Bills on their first game this fall, they will be battling it out against a team that isn’t the best in the league anymore. Their main running back will probably be suspended for the first game or two of the season. Since the Patriots will be playing them at the beginning of the season, they can already start talking about what their tactics might be when they take them on. For example, they will probably already have the running game pretty well shut down. Then they only need to talk about the passing game, which isn’t the best to begin with. Then they can push their offense against Buffalo’s not-so-amazing defense. It sounds like New England will definitely win. All they still have to do is play the game.

Wes Welker

Wes Welker is eager to once again be receiving passes from his quarterback Tom Brady. Welker along with other teammates are happy to see Brady back in Gillette Stadium for some on field workouts. Welker caught some passes from the Rehabbing Brady a few weeks ago. Welker had a high of 223 receptions in the two seasons that he has been with New England, and went to his first Pro Bowl last February. After the regular season Welker returned home in Oklahoma but had to continue to workout after the loss to Buffalo to be in shape for the Pro Bowl. There have been some roomers that Welkers close friend Defensive End Jason Taylor might be joining the Patriots for the 2009 season. Welker’s response to the rumors was if it happened it would seem to be a good thing for the Patriots organization.

Decade Teams Announced

It’s not quite the Patriots Hall of Fame, but it is very similar. The team has, more for fun than anything else, chosen their “Teams of the Decade” including teams for the 1970s, 80s and 90s. It’s a lot of fun to look at some of the old players, most of whom I remember, but several of whom I don’t. The team of the 90s is one of the most fun, because we still remember most of the players well, and a few of whom might still be playing. Anyone know where Adam Vinatieri is now? Parcells is still around. Anyway, take a look at the lists and see if you agree. We’d welcome your comments on the issue.

Congratulations!

When you look at Brady and his new wife, Gisela, you should say congratulations! The Patriots are saying hurray to them, as they go off to their honeymoon. It’s getting to be a little sideshow. Brady hasn’t played any football in more than half a year. This is one of the kinds of things that can distract a team from playing their best football in the upcoming season. Now that Brady will be married, maybe he’ll settle down and start playing. Or maybe he’ll heal faster. That’s the kind of thing that people who get married are known to do, right? Everything just falls into place the way it’s supposed to? Well, stay tuned and i’m sure there will be no more problems with Brady ever in the future. No missed passes or anything.
