Tricky

I almost wrote something about Tom Brady getting back into practice and working his way through his knee problems from before. He’s looking a lot better than he did even a couple weeks ago. But another surprising move from the Patriots caught my eye today. They signed a linebackers from the Detroit Lions, Paris Lenon. What has he done that people are excited about? Similarly, Leigh Bodden, from Detroit, has also been signed. For one thing, clearly New England got a good deal on these guys, since they have the winless-team on their resume. But these players must have something for New England to put resources into them at this point, because the team likes to do that on under the radar so frequently. So we’ll see what works out for them.

Patriots Offense

Randy Moss gave an interview this weekend to ESPN in which he discussed the offense and the chances they have to move forward into the playoffs and how well they might do there. Moss should know; he’s played on several teams in his time, and he’s been through rebuilding and championships. He suggests that the offense will be very talented now that Brady will be back and that most of that part of the team has much more experience than they did before. If you look at this group, you can tell, because most of them have been on this team since their record-breaking season or even before. The hope is that they can carry to a championship again. Get ready for an exciting year. I know it’s several weeks off yet, but it’s still going to be fun!

No Vick

Michael Vick will not be coming the Patriots, suggests BleacherReport. I don’t know who said that they might take him in the first place, but I can imagine that there are some people who are hoping for it. After all, the only backup that the Pats have right now is Kevin O’Connell, who is a decent QB who works very well the way the Patriots need a backup. At the same time, the team would have trouble taking in the Vick financial hit. He also plays a different kind of offense. Vick can run and throw, but is better at the former. The Pats offense looks for more throwing than running, generally. Thus, we don’t need to worry too much about the possibility of him coming and it will be fun to see what happens.

Comeback

The “huge comeback” of Tom Brady is in the offing, says the media. There are a lot of people who say that Brady might not be ready to return to the field. But since New England sent away their only backup, they have sent a message that they expect him to be back soon enough and just as good as ever. The Patriots are sometimes quite secretive, but we’ll find out what they are up to soon and it will be quite entertaining to see Brady back. Lots of people seem to think this is a team that’s headed back to the playoffs and possibly back to the Super Bowl. It’s much to early to say that but we can certainly hope! The offseason is coming in just a couple months and it’s going to be fun!

Saved America?

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots seem to be regarded as a great team for this country. Right after the 2001 terrorist attacks, the team began to take shape as the Patriots we currently know. Drew Bledsoe was injured and Tom Brady, a hard working middle-America boy was the backup. There was a kicker and coach and other players that seemed like Americans. The Bleacher Report calls them a blue collar team that was tough. And don’t forget the nickname, Patriots. Nowadays, people don’t like the Pats nearly so much and everyone gets kind of wriled up whenever the teams makes it into the playoffs. It’s nice to think about those old days and the fun that we had. And it’s fun to think of all the fun that is yet to come!

Expectations 09

The Patriots are looking to be a very strong team again this year. Almost all the different predicting people are looking at it and saying that it’s probably going to be one of the best years. And when you look at the different positions, you can see that this is probably true. In the QB position, Tom Brady will be back, and everyone expects him to be as good as ever. We haven’t seen him actually play for awhile, so there may be some rust in his arm stopping him from actually playing at the top of his potential. At WR, Randy Moss and other players look like they will hold their own. The team has changed from before, to be sure, with lots of linemen, both offensive and defensive, leaving the team. But otherwise, it’s looking to be a very able team yet again!

3rd Round Bust

The Pats 3rd round pick, Tyrone McKenzie is going to miss his rookie season. He is one of the best players that the team got in this NFL draft. Yesterday, he was practicing with the team, went out for a pass, got bumped by an RB and went down holding his knee. He tore a ligament in his leg and will miss the whole season. He has had a rather checkered career so far anyway, missing parts of seasons and switching colleges for family reasons a couple of times. He was looking forward to being one of the Pats best players and a good addition to the team. He’ll have to work hard to get back into shape for the 2010 season, but we’re sure he’ll get there.

Spygate Revisited

If you will think back to 2007, you’ll remember that there was an incident called Spygate, where the New England Patriots were penalized for taping the coaching signals of their opponent’s coaches, for use in planning for future games. There were accusations and claims that they had been taping some teams all the way back to 2000, and the coach said that he believed he was in line with the rules, provided he didn’t use the tapes during that same game. They ended up agreeing with him in part, but still fined him and the team. This led to a strong clarification of the rules that apply to this situation, so that everyone knows what the rules are now.

Bill Belichek Picks

The coach picked some relatively unknown players in the draft. They were far enough down in the picks that they didn’t need to expect to get real game changers this time around or anything. All the most-discussed names were already taken. But with this team, you can usually expect that something big will be happening at the different positions. Their picks are more like projects than anything else and this will be a team that benefits ultimately from their picks, it seems. We seem to have a solid team still and these players will contribute a little later, like this writer says.
