Maroney wants to make it big this season

The New England Patriots right back Laurence Maroney is expecting the training camp to be a very strenuous one after having finished attending the easy minicamp. He is hoping to be fit through this summer break in order to be in better shape for the training session. Laurence is determined to make it big this season for the Patriots and will be training hard with his colleagues once the training camp gets underway after a six week summer break. The one thing that is of prime most concern to Laurence Maroney is staying fit, healthy and injury free this season. The Pats fans will be buying tickets to cheer the entire team once the 2008 NFL season kicks off.  

Pats not hasty in re-signing Seau

The New England Patriots are not rushing to re-sign their tried and tested 39 year old linebacker Junior Seau for another NFL season as the rookies in the team are in the eyes of Coach Bill Belichick. He said that a decision on the same will be taken once the mini camp and the training camp gets underway. Most of the rookies are training in various new positions in the training camps and the coach needs some more time to find a person that will fit into the huge shoes of Seau. But news is that both the fans and the team want to see younger faces in the linebacker position this season. The Pats fans will be sure to queue the ticket counters once the ticket sales for the upcoming season starts. 

Willie Andrews asked to complete substance abuse treatment program

The New England Patriots player Willie Andrews has been ordered by a judge Neil Walker to finish a substance abuse treatment program and to carry out a community service project for the offense of being held for possession of half pound of marijuana and about $6,800 cash at a traffic stop in Lowell in February. The 24 year old player has been asked to perform community service for 100 hours that includes enlightening Lowell student-athletes about the hazards of narcotics, complete the substance abuse treatment program of NFL as well as pay a $1,000 fine. Andrews was Patriots seventh round draft pick in 2006 and is a swashbuckling hard hitting special teams player.

Patriots’ Stroke Survivor Tedy Supports Team @ Boston Marathon

For the third year in a row, the New England Patriots’ player Tedy Bruschi will support his very own Tedy’s Team of runners in the Boston Marathon. He was the Patriots’ linebacker who gained stardom after being a resilient stroke survivor.

Known fondly as Tedy by both fans and team mates, he is confident that his runners will meet their goal to finish the 2.6 mile run and at the same time, raise awareness about being a stroke survivor. An enthusiastic Tedy will be tracking their progress via the Internet and adds that “We have goals, from three-and-a-half hours all the way to completion. We’ve stayed out there until they were breaking down the stands. I’ll just be very supportive that day.”

Tedy’s Team was created to create more stroke awareness amongst the public and he hopes to make a difference although he is not confident that he will be able to run another marathon. He was at Foxborough training for the 2008 for the past three weeks and participated in the Patriots’ offseason strength and conditioning program.

Rumour Refuted: Patriots Do Not Want Pacman

The Nashville City paper have come out with the story that the New England Patriots are interested in acquiring Adam “Pacman” Jones from the Tennessee Titans.

This came about recently with the celebration of Pacman Jones’ one-year suspension anniversary has passed. According to the paper, they reported that the Patriots have secretly contacted the Titans and are in hush hush discussions to get Pacman to join their team. Formal negotiations have yet to materialize but Pacman is said to be eager to be part of the Patriots.

The claim came after the Patriots’ agent Manny Arora casually mentioned that the Patriots might be interested in getting Pacman but ex-Patriot reporter Albert “Einstein” Breer hastily reported that the Patriots will not pursue this interest. Although Pacman is a talented cornerback, he was nonetheless banished from the NFL after a series of incidents that include “unsatisfactory conduct away from the field”.

Patriots get a chance to avenge their Super Bowl defeat

As the New England Patriots preseason opponents were announced, the fans were thrilled to hear that they will be able to see a rematch of the Super Bowl XLII game against the New York Giants sometime in August in East Rutherford, N.J, as the date for the match is yet to be announced. The Patriots will also be taking on Tampa Bay on August 17th that will be televised live throughout the nation through the NFL network. The Patriots will be first in action against the Baltimore Ravens at their home turf Gillette Stadium during the first week of the preseason on August 7-11.

The Patriots after playing their second week game against the Tampa Bay will take on Philadelphia Eagles in their third week preseason game from August 21-25 in Foxborough. Finally, they will be playing their revenge games against the giants on August 28-29. The timing and the specific match dates except the one against Baltimore Ravens is yet to be announced.

Seymour joins the Patriots after a vacation

The New England Patriots DL Richard Seymour is an avid traveler and this year he chose to go to Israel with mate Benjamin Watson and team owner Robert Kraft for his off season vacation. Seymour thanked the team owner Kraft and his family for inviting him and his wife to a trip around Israel. Richard Seymour is back at the Gillette Stadium for the off-season’s training programs.

Seymour told the reporters that he was fascinated about the sights and sounds that Israel had to offer and was longing to visit the place after reading about its rich culture and history. He also watched Big Blue Jerusalem, a strong Israeli football league team, win a game 38-0 over Tel Aviv. Seymour said that he was provided with a safer and secure environment as there was potential danger always lurking around in the peace starved nation. He also revealed that he and his wife got baptized in the Jordan River.

Free agent Fernando Bryant signed by Patriots

The Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said that he was pretty pleased to note that free agent corner back Fernando Bryant has signed to play for them and it is always better to have a corner back with excellent experience and productive value. Bryant has been playing in the NFL season for the past nine years and has played a total of 110 games in his NFL career. He started his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1999. He has made 403 solo tackles out of the 509 career tackles and has had 109 starts. He played for the Jaguars from 1999 – 2003 and then had a stint for the Detroit Lions from 2004-07.

Bryant had started all the games for the Lions as a left corner back and made 76 tackles last season, which is his career best total in a single season since his first year with the Jaguars. The New England Patriots are happy to have such a versatile veteran in their team for the 2008 season.

Patriots in the charity field

The Patriot’s players Matt Light and Tedy Bruschi are doing all sorts of possible things including hunting; posing for camera and golfing to raise money for various charitable activities they are involved in. Matt Light is working for the uplift of the Native American children and he is arranging an adventure camp for them this summer. The camp will bring together the youngsters from Rhode Island as well as Native Americans for two weeks and the camp will have outdoor activities including football camp for 5 days. Light did hunting of Buffalo in the Northern Cheyenne reservation to feed the children at the Boys and Girls Club in Northern Cheyenne.

The kids from this club have already visited Light’s home in Massachusetts and he is planning a golf adventure in July in Ireland as part of charity golf tour conducted by the Southwest Ireland charity group. A portion of the money generated will go to the Light Foundation. Tedy Bruschi, another Patriot is doing “a large scale stroke awareness campaign” to help the victims of stroke. Bruschi, who is a stroke survivor, met a number of stroke survivors from the New England area and posed for photos with them. These photos will be used during the stroke awareness campaign.

Patriots launch NewEnglandFootball.com website

The New England Patriots are going in for an expansion of their football community to reach millions of their fans through the newly launched website NewEnglandFootballl.com that will find a place as an exhibit in the hall at the Patriot Place. The Hall has sent in the registrations and information details to all directors, head coaches and other management staff of about 640 odd New England schools that has a football team and has requested them to register in the newly created website. Once the school has given all its details, a particular page with a password will be made available to the school wherein they can maintain the records, upload photos and feed all the news for their fans to read.

The Hall at Patriot Place Executive Director, Bryan Morry, said that he is very excited about the launch of this novel concept and said that this website will be a huge hit in the years to come. He feels that it will be a great site for the fans to know more about high school football and will get to know a lot of information about the players of various high schools in the New England area. Any fan interested to know about the history, traditions, rivals, milestones, champions and so on of a particular team in the New England region, need to just go to the New England Football.com website and all the information that he needs will be there in the website.
